“There’s nothing quite like fresh blueberries, and Knoxville has some of the country’s finest. It’s only natural that Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey pairs perfectly with them,” says Gates Otsuji, co-founder of Swig + Swallow and regional chef de bar at The Standard in New York City. So he created the Knoxville Smash. “Hints of banana and maple syrup fill in the picture, and help get your brunch off to a great start,” he says.
- 6-10 blueberries
- Pinch salt
- 2 oz. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey (or other Tennessee whiskey with candied fruit notes)
- ½ oz. crème de banana
- ¾ oz. lemon juice
- ½ oz. maple syrup
- Garnish: lemon wedge, blueberries
Muddle blueberries in a shaker and add salt. Add remaining ingredients and ice, and shake well. Fine-strain over fresh ice into a tumbler, and garnish with lemon wedge and blueberries.
